A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §15-2-24c, relating to the Marshall University Forensic Science Center; requiring the State Police to partner with the Marshall University Forensic Science Center; and classifying it as a criminal justice agency so that it can participate in the National Data Exchange.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §15-2-24c, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 2. WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE.


§15-2-24c. Relationship with Marshall University Forensic Science Center.

The superintendent shall partner with the Marshall University Forensic Science Center to enhance the ability of the superintendent and the State Police to comply with their responsibilities. To further this partnership the Legislature classifies the center as a criminal justice agency for purposes under 28 U. S. C. § 534.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to classify the Marshall University Forensic Science Center as a criminal justice agency so that it can participate in the National Data Exchange.
